Projects across Telangana full to the brim

Due to the massive inflows coming from the Godavari watershed, nearly all of the big and smaller irrigation projects are at capacity. The Sriramsagar Project (SRSP), regarded as telangana State’s lifeline, is very near to reaching its gross storage capacity of 90.30 TMC. 23 of the 44 flood gates on the project were opened, releasing more than 1.54 lakh cubic seconds into the river.

The project’s live storage is kept at 78 TMC. The Kaddam project is releasing floodwater at a rate of around 2.40 lakh cusecs. 16 of the 18 floodgates were opened last night by the project’s administrators. Due to operational technical difficulties, two of the floodgates were unable to be opened.

People who lived in the homes close to the project were relocated to safer areas as a precaution. The floodgates of the lakshmi Barrage (85), Saraswati Barrage (66), and parvathi Barrage (74) were all opened in response to the significant floods from the upper sections of the Godavari and its tributaries, including Pranahita. The amount of water entering the nizam sagar project, which was around 7,200 cusecs on thursday night, is increasing.
Compared to the project’s gross storage of 17.80 TMC, the live storage is above 14 TMC. Over 2 lakh cusecs were injected and ejected from the Sripada Yellamapalli project. Strong inflows are also being made to the Kinnerasani project. On thursday night, seven of its floodgates were opened, allowing the deluge to enter the Godavari. Jurala has been getting 34,000 cusecs while the outflow has been kept at 75,000 cusecs as far as the krishna basin is concerned.
Both the srisailam and nagarjuna sagar projects were yet to see sizable inflows that would have increased their live storage levels. Only 9.22 TMC of the srisailam project are above the minimum drawdown level (MDDL). In excess of the MDDL, the nagarjuna sagar has 9.88 TMC. It offers optimism for the two main projects since the almatti dam in karnataka has started releasing more over 1,75,000 cusecs as its overflow.
